How to reduce your blood pressure through diet and exercise.

Hypertension is a silent disease that affects many of us. It is when you consistently high blood pressure. If left untreated it could lead to heart and kidney disease. The most common affect of untreated hypertension is a stroke. A stroke is caused when clot blocks one of your blood vessels. You can treat your high blood pressure before it is too late through diet and exercise.

You can lower or maintain your blood pressure through exercise. Sedentary individuals are more at risk of developing hypertension, than individuals who exercise consistently. You can remedy this by walking for thirty minutes at least 3 times per week or develop your own exercise routine.

Reduce Alcohol intake. Too much alcohol increases your risk of developing hypertension. It also increases your chance of developing cancer. Limit your alcohol to two drinks a day (1 drink a day for women.)

Reduce Sodium intake. Too much sodium has been linked to high blood pressure in people who are sodium-sensitive. Since it is hard determine who is and who isn't sodium sensitive, it is wise to reduce your sodium intake.

Increase your potassium intake. People who consume more potassium have a lower chance of developing hypertension. You can obtain your potassium by eating five fruits and vegetables per day. It is important not to take a supplement unless advised by your physician.

Losing weight may be the most effective remedy. If you are overweight, you have a higher chance in developing hypertension. You can lose as much as five pounds and significant impact on your blood pressure. After you lose the weight, it is also important to maintain your weight loss. Weight cycling may prove ineffective in the end. Try changing your lifestyle by consuming foods low in fat and exercising regularly.
